About him
Black Country roots, but London has been home for most of my adult life. I’ve spent much of my career self-employed, advising businesses on innovation and change-mainly health and energy technologies these days , and have been lucky enough to work extensively around the world. Spending time in other countries and cultures has been one of the privileges of my working life.
I still work because I enjoy it, and I also teach, which has become one of its great pleasures. Being around bright young people from across the world teaches me at least as much as I teach them; they bring fresh perspectives and keep challenging the way I see things. I tend to look forward rather than back.
I have three grown-up children whom I largely brought up myself.
Sport has been woven through much of my life — cricket, football and rugby, including many years coaching. It matters less than it once did, although a bad Albion result still registers rather more than it probably should. These days it is Pilates, a rowing machine and occasional excruciatingly bad golf, largely to keep in touch with old friends.
I like the centre of cities and proper wilderness, theatre and concerts, film, galleries, travel, walking, restaurants and people who are curious and engaged with the world.
Politically I’m left-wing and socially liberal. Intellectually I’m a bit of a magpie: easily excited by ideas, prone to connecting things that probably weren’t meant to be connected, and often better referenced than properly well read.
Still very much a work in progress, but with plenty of curiosity and no great desire to become too settled in my ways.

Someone warm, bright, curious and engaged with the world, probably with a creative streak.
I’m looking for one person and a real, lasting relationship: affection, warmth and physical closeness, good conversation, laughter, shared plans and a sense of mutuality.
Shared interests are lovely, but I also like discovering someone else’s enthusiasms and being drawn into things I might not have found on my own.
I’d expect her to have her own family, friendships and commitments too, but within that independence she also genuinely wants to make room for a close and lasting partnership
